Weekly Four-Skill Challenge: Week 13 – Reporting a Child’s Absence

Welcome to Week 13 of the Weekly Four-Skill English Challenge!

This week, you’ll practise English for reporting a child’s absence from school. Whether your child is sick, has a doctor’s appointment, or needs to stay home for another reason, you need English to communicate clearly with the school and provide important information.

In this challenge, you’ll practise all four language skills through realistic activities. You’ll listen to a parent reporting an absence, practise making a phone call to the school, read an email about a child’s absence, and write an email to a teacher. You’ll also learn useful expressions for giving a reason for an absence and asking about missed homework, tests, and assignments.

By the end of this week’s challenge, you’ll be able to:

  • report your child’s absence clearly and politely;
  • give a reason for your child’s absence;
  • ask about missed homework, tests, and assignments; and
  • write a short email to your child’s teacher.
