Weekly Four-Skill English Challenge: Week 5 – Exchanges and Returns

Welcome to Week 5: Exchanges and Returns

Welcome to Week 5 of the Weekly Four-Skill English Challenge! This week, you’ll learn the English around exchanges and returns. Whether a product is damaged, the wrong size, or simply not what you expected, knowing how to explain the problem and understand a store’s return policy will make shopping easier and less stressful.

In this challenge, you’ll practise all four English skills through realistic shopping situations. You’ll listen to a conversation about returning an item. Then, you will practise asking for a refund or exchange, read a simple store return policy, and write about a shopping experience. Along the way, you’ll learn useful vocabulary such as receipt, refund, exchange, store credit, return policy, and customer service.

By the end of this week’s challenge, you’ll be able to:

  • communicate confidently when solving shopping problems in Canadian stores.
  • understand common conversations between customers and customer service representatives;
  • use everyday vocabulary related to exchanges, returns, and refunds with greater confidence;
  • explain why you want to return or exchange an item;
  • ask politely for a refund, exchange, or store credit;
  • understand basic store return policies and refund options; and
  • communicate confidently when solving shopping problems in Canadian stores.

Download the printable worksheet, complete the activities at your own pace, and continue building your English one week at a time!
